Review: Princeless

Still waiting for your prince to come?  Tired of spending night after night locked in a secluded tower?  Ready for your own adventure?  So are we.

Princeless is the story of Princess Adrienne, one princess who’s tired of waiting to be rescued.  Join Adrienne and her guardian dragon, Sparky, as they begin their own quest in an all-ages action adventure designed specifically for those who are tired of waiting to be rescued… and who are ready to save themselves.

I’ve always believed that you can’t just make comics and expect women and children to pick them up because they’re there. You have to market them, let them know they exist, and most of all, you have to have something they can identify with. Storm was my favorite X-Man when I watched the cartoon as a kid, because she looked like me. So when someone like Adrienne comes along in a comic like Princeless, it makes me giddy. I picture all those young girls out there who look for girls who look like them in the things they love, and it makes me so happy to have a comic like this exist.

It also helps that it’s an incredibly fun read with a take-charge main character I want to follow and her adorable sidekick dragon. (Who is pink! And awesome!)

I know at first glance it might turn some people off — it’s all-ages, it’s a girl princess, that cover is totally pink — but for those of us who enjoy a good all-ages comic, I  recommend Princeless for a good time and a fun spin on all those princess movies we grew up with. There’s also a great back-up story about the poor prince who tries to save Adrienne in this issue and barely makes it away with his life.

Princeless is written by Jeremy Whitley with art by M. Goodwin, and is published by Action Lab. The first two issues are available now on Graphicly and in comic book stores through Diamond. This issue is part of a four part miniseries which will kick off a series of minis featuring the adventures of Adrienne, her dragon Sparky, and her friends and family.

The first issue of this comic was sent to us for review purposes. This did not affect the outcome of this review in any way.
