Tell us about yourself!
I am a British loving horror nerd girl who over the past several years has really gotten into comics. I am currently working on my gamer skills as a member of the PMS clan (Left 4 Dead 2 division for Xbox360). I am also one part of the Nerd Girls Eye View at comicrelated.com. We are a group of 3 nerdy ladies who discuss comics, horror, gaming, gadgets and everything nerdy in between.
How did you get into comics?
I got into comics a few years ago. I had the general thought that all comics where superhero comics and I wasn’t really into superheroes. Then I had some people recommend Preacher, Hack/Slash, The Walking Dead and Y: The Last Man to me and I just fell in love with them and I have been into comics ever since.
Do you just read comics, or do you express your love in other ways?
Being part of the Nerd Girls Eye View I able to express my thoughts and views on the comics on read. I also just did my first cosplay at C2E2. I used to say I would never do cosplay because I just didn’t know where to start. But, I meet some great friends who helped me out and gave me the confidence to do it. I have now officially cosplayed Harley Quinn from Arkham Asylum and Cassie Hack from Hack/Slash.
What are some comics you’re currently reading and enjoying?
The Walking Dead Kirkman has a way to kick you in the stomach on the last page of every issue, which is amazing. With the DC52 I am really enjoying Batman, Batgirl, Batwoman and Red Lanterns. I am also enjoying Morning Glories, Locke & Key, Hack/Slash and the Wonderland series from Zenescope.
Who is your favorite character?
Cassie Hack from Hack/Slash. I love the fact that she is a regular girl who was thrown into being a killer of slashers. She doesn’t come from money, she hasn’t had proper training and she doesn’t get the use of fancy gadgets. She is just a girl that at the beginning of all this had no idea what she was doing, but she just knew she had to do it and over the years has gained a lot of confidence in what she is doing.
Who are your favorite artist(s) & writer(s)?
For writers I really enjoy Garth Ennis, Michael Alan Nelson, Tim Seeley, Scott Synder and Joe Hill. For art I love Joe Benetiz, Daniel Leister, Adam Hughes, Joe Esima and Gabriel Rodiguez.
Do you have a favorite comic storyline?
Locke & Key it’s the only comic book that has ever given me chills. The art makes you feel like you are watching a movie instead of reading a comic book.
How do you usually buy your comics?
I get my comics from my LCS and Amazon. I have really been thinking about going to digital for some comics. But, I still really like the feel of a comic book in my hand.
What are some things you love about comics? Some things that frustrate you?
I love that there is a lot of female lead characters out there with some great storylines. I think what frustrates me the most is when a plot point is done for the shock value and not to enhance the story.
What does your dream book look like?
I would want Joe Hill to write it and Joe Benetiz to illustrate. I would like to see a completely new female character emerge from this comic. She would be a combination of all the comic characters I love…Cassie Hack, Lady Mechanika and Selena (28 Days Later). It would be an angels vs demons story with the Apocalypse being only one part of the end of the world.
Any final thoughts?
I have always enjoyed being a fangirl whether it is for a comic, a horror movie or a celebrity. Love what you love regardless of what others say, but always keep an open mind in the nerdy world because you never know what you will discover.
